No, NeXT never claimed that the Pantone color system would give you printed colors the same as screen colors. The screens are not calibrated for that, and usually screen calibration doesn't work that well anyway. What Pantone is supposed to guarantee is that printed colors match Pantone colors, which you look up in a swatch book.
