- No, not quite. There are *some* educvational discounts, but they
- aren't anywhere near the usual 30%-40% range. Talk in the Sun
- newsgroup indicated that the basic Sparc Classic would cost about
- $3,400 (i.e. 15% off list) and about $3,800 with 400 MB disk.
-
- Otherwise yes, you're right, SUn isn't shipping these babies yet.
- Still, at <$4,000 the Sun seems to be a great buy even if you have to
- wait for a month or two for delivery.

- Well, I thought NeXT did, repeatedly. There have been *quite* a few
- gripes in the NeXT newsgroups about long delivery times, not only for
- the NeXT CD-ROM bundle, but for NeXT computers. Also NeXT has offered
- capabilities they've never delivered (NeXTdimension) so I don't think
- NeXT is better or worse than anyone else.

- No, I didn't. Please do tell.
- And yes, $4K buys you quite a lot. You certainly don't get all the
- NeXT goodies (NeXTstep, devtools, bundled apps), but for all I know
- most real-world *users* don't care much about how easy IB is.
-
- I hope NeXT will announce new hardware *soon*. Sun has already
- announced that they will switch to Display PostScript, and once they
- do, the SparcClassic will become *very* attractive for DTP since it
- will offer almost twice the power of a NSTC for half the price *and*
- upgradeability.
-
- Good thing I don't need all the latest and newest stuff because I'm
- quite happy with my NeXT as it is.
