- For over a year I have seen threads in the comp.sys.mac.* groups
- about mouse problems where the Mac doesn't realize that the mouse
- button has been released. I have seen reports of this trouble with a
- variety of Mac software and hardware configurations, and have
- experienced it myself.
-
- To my knowledge, folks at Apple are not aware of the breadth or cause
- of the problem. When I talked with representatives of the Apple
- Customer Assistance Center a while back they didn't know of such a
- problem.
-
- So far I have received over 50 responses to my posts to the Usenet Mac
- groups about this trouble. I have informally contacted some folks at
- Apple who are willing to help pursue a solution. From the reports
- I've received and my own experience, I believe this problem is usually
- a (mechanical/electronic?) problem in the mouse resulting from a
- production flaw, and not a system software or CPU hardware problem.
- The only thing these problems seem to have in common is that most of
- the mice are manufactured in Malaysia.
-
- This is a forth call for EMAIL reports TO ME about the aforementioned
- mouse problem. Please include in your report:
- o The mouse's FAMILY NUMBER, SERIAL NUMBER and WHERE IT WAS MADE
- (printed on underside of mouse).
- YOUR REPORT WILL BE USELESS TO ME WITHOUT THAT INFORMATION,
- so don't rush off a report without it. Go visit the Mac,
- stroke the mouse kindly, gently turn it over, and copy down that info!
- o Details about your experience with the problem:
- when you first noticed it, what apps it happens in, how often,
- when you double-click, single-click or click and drag
- o The model of Mac and details about its configuration:
- how much memory, hard disk, expansion cards...
- o The System Software and extensions (inits/cdevs) on this Mac
- o What application software you regularly use
- o Personal information: Your name, company name (if any), address,
- daytime phone number, email addresses
- o Please identify your report with the subject line: Mouse problem report
-
- Please EMAIL your report TO ME!
