- "... exactly what type of cabling best connects the HP PaintJet
- to a Mac? I realize a centronix connector at the printer end..." - C.H.
-
- Hi there Chris. Hewlett Packard released two versions of the PaintJet
- printer - a serial and parallel port version. There are some PaintJet
- printer drivers available from Hewlett Packard for the Macintosh!
- You should contact your local authorized Hewlett Packard dealer for these
- printer drivers.
-
- If you had the serial version of the HP PaintJet printer, you would have
- no problems connecting the PJ printer directly to your Macintosh by just
- using a Macintosh serial printer cable (DIN-8 to ImageWriter I type) and
- using the HP PJ drivers which sends its data at 9600 baud.
-
- As for the cabling to connect your Macintosh to the HP PaintJet via
- parallel (Centronics) port, you will need a special MODIFIED serial to
- parallel converter cable to communicate at 9600 baud.
-
- Believe it or not this cable does exist! =) =) =)
-
- "GDT PowerPrint is a software and cable combination which enables your
- Macintosh computer to print to over 1000 dot matrix, inkjet, or laser
- printers. PowerPrint gives you LaserWriter-like control of your
- printer along with a flexible and friendly user interface, built-in
- spooling capability, enhanced greyscale patterns, smart labels and forms
- printing, and better communication options." <-- Sound like a brochure?
-
- You will need the cable from this package (the s-p cable is not sold
- separately - unfortunately) and have it modified to transmit data at 9600
- baud instead of 57600 baud. This modification can be done quite simply.
- After this modification, you can still use the cable with the
- printer drivers from PowerPrint but you will need the serial tool from
- the Communications ToolBox and will only be able to communicate at 9600
- instead of the fast and funky 57600 baud.
-
- If you have any more questions, please don't hesitate to contact me and I
- will do my best to help you. My direct phone line is 604.299.3379.
-
- Cheers!
