  12. Out of curiosity we connected a 2GigaByte Seagate (ST42400N) drive which is
  13. destined to be used on a DecStation to a Quadra 700.

  15. When the file system was built on it it gave us a minimum file size of
  16. 32kb. This had the effect of trippling the amount of space needed to hold
  17. the contents of an 80M drive on the same machine.

  19. We found that by partitioning the drive into smaller segments the minimum
  20. file size also got smaller. Eg
  21. Drive SIze   Minimum file size
  22. <=64M          1k
  23. 64<x<=128M     2k
  24. 128<x<=256M    5k
  25. 256<x<=512M    9k
  26. 512<x<=1024M   16k
  27. 1024<x<=2048M  32k

  29. We tried formatting it with a Microteck formatter (v3.05), a DataWear
  30. formatter (2.0) and HDT (v1.0) none of which made any difference to the
  31. minimum file size the OS built.

  33. At some stage it is quite likely that we will want to connect a drive this
  34. large or maybe a 1G and don't want the minimum size to be so large.

  36. Is there anything which can be done to fix this???
