- The old CD ROM drives from Apple do indeed read PhotoCD files!
-
- I know it is easy for people to claim that the three different Sony CD-ROM
- mechanisms used in the Apple CD ROM products do not all support the
- ability to read a single session of a Kodak PhotoCD Disk... But I have
- seen all three mechanisms used by Apple read PhotoCDs with both the
- Apple Driver 4.0 for CD-ROMs and a beta version of the FWB CD-ROM
- ToolKit. The three mechanisms I saw were the Sony CDU-8001, Sony CDU-8002
- , Sony CDU-8003. These are found in products from Apple such as the
- Apple CD SC (Sony CDU-8001), Apple CD SC+ and Apple CD 150 (CDU-8002)
- , and Apple 300 (Sony CDU-8003).
-
- I saw it work. It works. To claim different than this I realize that I
- should have to furnish the proof. But in time Marc Kaufman and others
- will discover that they are mislead and are not correct.
-
- Photo-CD Single session works on *ALL* CD-ROM drives from Apple and many
- other devices as well such as NEC 83, Pioneer DRM 600, Sony CDU 541,
- various Toshibas, etc.
-
- I will admit there are a few technical reasons that you might try to
- claim that the devices do not all easily make it possible for SCSI drivers
- to handle PhotoCD Mode-2 XA subunit blocks the same way on all devices,
- but a driver can be competently written to enable PhotoCD to work on
- most CD-ROM drives, in fact the only one I know of that definitely does
- NOT support PhotoCD is a NEC 36 drive.
