- Here's what I'd like to see:
-
- A standard suite of AppleEvents and a Dictionary Manager (and Thesaurus
- Manager and Grammar Manager) that provide a standardized means for an
- application to 'lookup' a word/phrase/sentence.
-
- The Dictionary/Grammar Checker/Thesaurus should then grab the event and
- do with it what it wants, returning the expected value.
-
- Thus, no matter whose dictionary (etc.) you choose to use, all programs
- could use it. Microsoft, Claris, etc. could still ship their dictionaries
- as standards (perhaps with reduced functionality, though), and third
- parties might wish to ship 'power' dictionaries. The end-user leaves the
- checker of choice installed and all programs bow to his/her choice via
- the Dictionary Manager.
-
- Of course, hell will freeze over before this happens, but...
