- I posted a question in this group not too long ago about Apple financing. I'd
- like to follow up my own post to thank those who sent me information and to
- quickly summarize (correctly, I hope) what other have told me and what I've
- found out on my own.
-
- 1) Apple has a credit card that is not hard to qualify for but has an interest
- rate of about 18%. Many other credit cards have lower rates these days. (I
- have one at 15% and another at about 13%(?).
-
- 2) _If_ you qualify for educational discounts (as I do), not only do you get
- those discounts, but you are eligible for a special financing plan, under
- which you can borrow up to $10000, pay it off over (up to) 8 years, and best of
- all (right now), pay an interest rate of about 8.5 - 9%. The rate is variable
- and based on a spread of about 4% plus the commercial paper rates, which right
- now are at about 3.5%, but are expected to go up slowly over the next 5 to 8
- years (or so my economist contact tells me). If you are a student, you can
- also get lower payments until you graduate, then pay higher ones once you are
- out.
-
- This is all a good deal for my wife and me. I've sent in my application, and
- hopefully within the next few weeks will be the proud owner of a new Duo and
- Dock.
