- Yes, it is possible, simple, and workable. We have one hooked to a
- LocalTalk network with two Macs on it, a NeXT, and a NEC IBM-style PC.
- All three machines (well, two machines and a network) are connected to
- it all the time. All we have to do to switch is go to the printer and
- switch among serial, parallel, and AppleTalk interfaces. It's a pain
- in the tochas, since the printer is several offices down the hall from
- me, but it works. The Macs will happily tell us if the printer isn't
- switched correctly, but then we have to tell Print Monitor to try
- again. The PC's, of course, don't know their printer port from a hole
- in
- the ground so they just happily "print" no matter what the printer is
- attached to, but of course nothing comes out. The NeXT's seem to
- handle it best; they seem to know when the printer is switched to
- "serial," and automatically print whatever has been spooled since the
- last time.
