  26. Yes, it is possible, simple, and workable.  We have one hooked to a
  27. LocalTalk network with two Macs on it, a NeXT, and a NEC IBM-style PC. 
  28. All three machines (well, two machines and a network) are connected to
  29. it all the time.  All we have to do to switch is go to the printer and
  30. switch among serial, parallel, and AppleTalk interfaces.  It's a pain
  31. in the tochas, since the printer is several offices down the hall from
  32. me, but it works.  The Macs will happily tell us if the printer isn't
  33. switched correctly, but then we have to tell Print Monitor to try
  34. again.  The PC's, of course, don't know their printer port from a hole
  35. in
  36. the ground so they just happily "print" no matter what the printer is
  37. attached to, but of course nothing comes out.  The NeXT's seem to
  38. handle it best; they seem to know when the printer is switched to
  39. "serial," and automatically print whatever has been spooled since the
  40. last time.
