- Hello,
-
- Our department is purchasing Mac's for the first time. Mac's are new to
- me, so if you can answer a few question I would appreicated it very
- much. I am familiar with Suns & PC, but know almost zero about Mac's.
- These are some question I can't get answers locally.
-
- 1. I was thinking of purchasing IIci's with NEC MultiSync 3FGx Monitors.
- So immediately one could use the IIci's built in video capacity 640x480.
- Later on, I could be purchase a video board to me increased resolution
- In the PC world, a SVGA board can support 640x480x15, 800x600x8 and
- 1024x768x8 bits on the 3FGx. Is there a Mac video board which the user
- can select different resolutions via software (640x480x24bits & 1024x768x8bits)
- and be used with the NEC 3FGx? If so, can you provide model and manufacturer.
-
- 2. If I do add a separate video board with the NEC 3FGx, can I connect
- a spare monitor to the IIci's video port to get a duel monitor version.
-
- 3. Our department has 3 Suns & many PC. They are all connected on an
- ethernet backbone. The PC run PC-NFS (TCP/IP) and use the Suns as servers.
- I am thinking of connecting all the Macs to the same ethernet. I will not
- use its localtalk ports. I guess the Macs can do there own fileshare
- sharing using Appletalk over ethernet. Will this work? Can Mac talk Appletalk
- over the same wire while Suns&PC talk TCP/IP? Do they co-exist peacefully?
-
- 4. If #3 work. I want to dedicate a laserwrite to the Mac's. Someone
- suggested using Dayna's EtherPrint box to connect a Laserwrite NT directly
- to the ethernet. The Mac should be able to print without using one of
- the sun as a server. Has anyone tried this?
-
- Thanks
-
