- I'm looking for any advice or suggestions. Twice in the last week, which
- seems like an awfully odd coincidence, I've had SE/30's fail to
- recognize their hard drives.
-
- None of the usual commercial utilities (Symantec, Norton, MacTools)
- are able to see the hard drive's presence. The disk light comes on for
- a moment at boot, and then the disk question mark icon.
-
- I've thrown about every other utility I have at this, like SCSI Probe,
- the Mount Any Hard Drive application, HD setup--none of them seem to
- see anything, although one called SCSI Tester takes a given SCSI ID
- through a number of phases. I noticed that ID 0 does go further along--
- through the Arbitration Phase, Selection, Command, and then at Status
- Phase it bombs out. This is further than the other ID's go. This also may
- be pure nonsense.
-
- After much fiddling, the first machine did resurrect itself, although
- I can't be sure whether through my own efforts or coincidence.
- The second machine--no luck yet.
-
- What could cause this? I've got the Disinfectant 2.9 Init installed, so
- I like to think this is not a virus. I suppose someone could have ignored
- its messages, or it didn't pick up on anything. This just seems too
- coincidental to be hardware failure .....
-
- Puzzled.
