- Just did the upgrade on my IIsi. I was surprised how tough it was to get
- the 40 MHz xtal out, and I consider myself to be pretty good with an iron
- and hand tools. Bought a new 50 MHz xtal from Fry's: $3.59.
-
- Regarding the on-board RAM, mine had 70ns chips. The four 2M SIMMS that
- I added were rated 80ns.

- The CPU is running about 60C without a heat sink. This is probably OK in
- my Mac since it's left on all the time. With thermal cycling from constant
- on-off, a heat radiator would be of some benefit. Also, the 68030 is rated
- for 20MHz. These things only get slower with temperature, so anything to keep
- it cooler would be valuable with this sort of speedup. Fry's didn't have any
- small heat "sinks" that looked appropriate, but I'll keep a lookout for an
- aluminum sink with round or square pins at least 0.2" high. The chip is
- about 1 inch on a side, which provides enough area to permit the convenient
- use of double stick tape for attachment.
