- Well, I was just about set to get the Logitech Scanman when I get
- this catalog offering the Typist Plus Graphics for only $339. So, I'd like
- your help in deciding which to get.
-
- My primary use will be for scanning clip art to use on a stylewriter for
- small-scale DTP. I don't really need the OCR, but don't mind paying the $50
- difference (same catalog has the Logitech for $289).
-
- The September MacUser mentions that the Typist actually can scan only 1-bit;
- software interpolates for 256 grays. Has anybody out there used this device
- for grayscale scanning? Can anybody suggest whether the 256-gray
- interpolation would be better or worse than the Scanman's 32 true (I assume)
- grays?
-
- BTW, the bundled software doesn't matter much... I've had good success using
- Photoshop to convert a 72dpi grayscale PICT to a 360dpi bitmap TIFF.
-
- And finally, if anyone would care to suggest a third scanner and a source,
- I'd be happy to consider that, too... provided it didn't cost more; $340
- really is my budget for this.
-
- Thanks much,
