  14. HELP!  Here's a problem for you technical whizzes out there:

  16.      A friend of mine just purchased and installed System 7.1 on his SE/30
  17. 5/40.  Since this time, he has not been able to format either 800K or 1.4 MB
  18. diskettes.  He gets the normal "formatting disk" and "verifying format"
  19. messages, but then a "re-verifying format" message comes up, followed by an
  20. "initialization failed message" and the disk being spit out of the drive.

  22.      I'm pretty sure this is not an extension problem.  The machine will not
  23. format diskettes even with the extensions turned off.  By the way, I have
  24. updated the SCSI driver.

  26.      I'm certain it's not the diskettes' fault--I've had no trouble formatting
  27. them on my SE/30 (which, incidentally, is also running 7.1)

  29.      I've cleaned his drive with a head cleaning diskette and will be blowing
  30. it out with compressed air sometime during the next few days.

  34. 1.  What other steps should I take to get the drive up and running?
  35. 2.  Should I try re-installing System 7.1?
