- The line is caused by a stabilization wire in the apeture grill on the
- trinitron tube. A trinitron tube is made up of lots of thin wires running
- vertical and in parallel. Each wire divides the color stripes clearly for the
- coaxial electron gun. When a tube gets large, a stabilizing cross-wire is added
- to combat vibration (running horizontally). Unfortunately, it is often visible
- on the display (usually appears to be a sort of shadow).
- As for the corners being crooked, it is an unfortunate consequence of
- low quality control on all monitors in general. It isn't a serious problem, but
- you shouldn't have to deal with it if it bothers you. However, I've never heard
- of pictures moving up and down as a result of swivel, so you should really
- consider returning that one. Try checking the next one out before you pick it
- up. Have other people had such problems with the Color Display? I've never
- heard many problems about the AppleColor, and the new display has the same Sony
- tube with new analog curcuitry.
