  15. You're thinking of the IIfx, which had a bug that would corrupt
  16. "hints".  This only meant that when it had to defragment blocks of
  17. memory, it would look in completely the wrong place for a good point
  18. to start from, wasting quite a bit of time (nanoseconds, but they add
  19. up).  No data corruption or system crashes could result from this,
  20. though.

  22. An init ("Memory Manager") was distributed publically to fix this, but
  23. the init was buggy itself -- using it would corrupt data and crash systems.

  25. I believe the problem was patched correctly in System 6.0.5 or .6.
