- I am getting ready to buy a Mac (or a 486) for home. I am a poor-power user
- and my budget is around $2000. I want a Mac for me and the kids. But, I get
- more use (from a compatible with work sense) from a DOS machine.
-
- I have a IIcx (8 mb RAM 105 mb HDU) with a 14" in my office and have fell
- absoultly in love with Excel and WordPerfect Mac and so on. Since I have a
- DOS machine at home (abiet a 16mhz 386DX, 4mb 85mb, VGA only) so the Mac would
- make a good second machine (rather than having two DOS machines).
-
- So here is my delima. I am leaving the University and would like to take
- advantage of my cheap prices. I have access to a Powerbook 140 in the office
- now. It is too slow (though it is probably memory related).
-
- I know little about the Mac line, in particular the new systems (Performa IIvx
- etc). The LC II is attractive because of the IIe emulator (since they still
- use IIe's at my son's school). I can get an LC II, with 8mb 160mb and a 12in
- monitor for that price range. But I think the LC II is going to be short
- horse power to make my happy.
-
- Can some one summarize the differences in the new Macs (including the Duo
- System (which is real attractive)) and maybe recommend some options for me?
-
- Thanks
- Rob
