- Out of curiosity we connected a 2GigaByte Seagate (ST42400N) drive which is
- destined to be used on a DecStation to a Quadra 700.
-
- When the file system was built on it it gave us a minimum file size of
- 32kb. This had the effect of trippling the amount of space needed to hold
- the contents of an 80M drive on the same machine.
-
- We found that by partitioning the drive into smaller segments the minimum
- file size also got smaller. Eg
- Drive SIze Minimum file size
- <=64M 1k
- 64<x<=128M 2k
- 128<x<=256M 5k
- 256<x<=512M 9k
- 512<x<=1024M 16k
- 1024<x<=2048M 32k
-
- We tried formatting it with a Microteck formatter (v3.05), a DataWear
- formatter (2.0) and HDT (v1.0) none of which made any difference to the
- minimum file size the OS built.
-
- At some stage it is quite likely that we will want to connect a drive this
- large or maybe a 1G and don't want the minimum size to be so large.
-
- Is there anything which can be done to fix this???
-
- Thanks,
