- #
- #On the _original_ Mac II, you are limited by the ROMs to 8 MB. The
- #SuperDrive upgrade comes (came?) with new ROMs which fix this. Then, you
- #are the same as a Mac IIx as far as DRAM is concerned. For example, you
- #can use SIMMs made from 4 MBit DRAM, but they need a PAL to suppress a test
- #mode. See the Macintosh Memory Configurations technote for details.
- #
- #To access more than about 13 MB (the exact number depends on how many NuBus
- #cards you have), you need MODE32 and System 7 for 32-bit addressing to take
- #advantage of this additional DRAM.
-
-
- True or False: The SuperDrive upgrade is not necessary to add the special
- PAL 4MB SIMMs to one of the Mac II's memory banks, giving 20MB total.
-
- My answer was "True", based on my last reading of the M.M.C. TN. Did I read
- it too quickly? (I've read various versions of the TN, even the version
- which first revealed the SuperDrive/ROM requirement, but (one of) the
- latest version(s) of this TN seemed to indicate that the SuperDrive upgrade
- was NOT needed).
