- Doesn't make any sense. I talk to my 14,400 v.42bis modem at 115k bps to allow
- the 4x data compression that it often achieves on text files. your 386/40 won't
- go that fast if you use disk caching in extended memory or if you use a multi-
- tasking operating system. The time between interrupts has to be on the order
- of 100 microseconds..... that is pretty tough on ANY machine, the 16550 changes
- this to roughly 1.6 milliseconds, a more manageable number (although still
- pretty fast.)
