- A passive matrix display has one transistor for each row, and one for
- each column. It activates a pixel by using the corresponding row and
- column transistors. It activates the whole screen by scanning quickly
- through all the rows and columns.
-
- An active matrix display has a transistor for each pixel. Active
- matrix displays have much higher contrast and faster response times
- than passive matrix, but they are quite difficult and expensive to
- make since they have about 300 times as many transistors as passive
- matrix.
-
- Recent issues of PC Magazine and PC World have had good articles about
- the different display types.
