  23. It might, actually. But you may not want to use that resolution...:-)
  24. For X (and for most other window systems) you may want to reserve some
  25. off-screen storage to cache fonts and small pixmaps. If you go to
  26. 1152x900x64k on a 2MB frame buffer, you have nothing left over, which
  27. means blitting characters over the ISA bus. The best theoretical
  28. performance would then be that of a passive monochrome frame buffer on
  29. the ISA bus. With font caching you transfer META information, which is
  30. independent for example of the font size (unless you run out of
  31. off-screen area).
