  17. Until AMD(or another company, AMD is simply the most likely) comes out with
  18. a 486DX clone that is 100% i486DX compatible(or backward compatible if the
  19. new chip is better. (ie-386DX-40)) 486 prices will stay constant.

  21. As it is right now, Intel is having a little trouble keeping up with the 
  22. demand for 486 chips.

  24. Until a true 486 clone is made, Intel has no reason to significantly lower
  25. the price of 486DX chips.

  27. I expect that very soon, Intel will lower the price of 486SX chips so that
  28. it would be silly to buy a 386DX or SX.

  30. AMD is most likely going to get its 486 clones out 2Q93, and the 586 will
  31. have been out for a few months by then.  I figure 486 prices will fall
  32. much, and 586 prices will too, though they will still remain relatively
  33. high.

  35. A few months after AMD gets its 486 clones to the market, 386's will become
  36. a dead market, like 286's today.  Low-power 486 chips will be out, and 486SX
  37. chips and others less-powerful 486 chips will be priced so low as to make
  38. buying or even selling a 386 pointless.

  40. I'm just curious as to when/what chips other companies will make for
  41. Overdrive sockets.  I think that is becoming a nice market.  WIth all
  42. the various chips around...it's only a matter of time before companies
  43. figure out how to clone an Overdrive chip, and begin offering other chips
  44. besides Intels for that socket.  I figure these will start appearing in the
  45. 1st half of 1993.
