  12. We recently obtained an old IBM compatable computer from surplus
  13. at our university.  We tried to use FDISK to format the harddrive....
  14. it responded with "fixed disk not present".
  15.  
  16. Upon booting the computer, it tries to boot from the harddrive
  17. and then throws a 1701 on the screen and then boots from a floppy. 
  18.  
  19. I got an "Invalid Drive Specification" error....everytime I try 
  20. to do anything to the harddrive....  The computer is an old Tandy
  21. that we want to use for modem uses from our observatory.  The 
  22. harddrive would come in handy.
