- I have a system which was upgraded from a 386DX (no external cache) to
- the Cyrix 486DLC. The system runs fine, and with the DO_CACHE.EXE
- program which enables the on-chip internal cache, the performance
- increase is quite dramatic. This works under DOS since DO_CACHE.EXE
- is a DOS executable.
-
- Unfortunately, I primarily run UNIX on this system and the default
- mode of the 486DLC after reset is with the internal cache disabled.
- I need to write a UNIX driver for the 486DLC to enable its cache.
-
- So, the question is this: Where can I find information about the
- specific instructions necessary to enable the 486DLC internal cache?
- Is there any sample source code available? Also, I want to make this
- code enable the 486DLC cache only in the presence of such a chip.
- Is there a way to detect a 486DLC (as opposed to a vanilla 386DX or
- 486DX)?
-
- If I can't get any info off the net I will probably have to try
- Cyrix themselves. Does anyone have the technical info phone number
- or address of Cyrix?
-
- Thanks in advance...
