- I have one of these packages and I find nothing wrong with it.
- Neither the sound card or the CD rom in necessarily state of the
- art, but for what I use it for it is great (games and some simple
- sound stuff). The only problem I have with it is the proprietary
- CD interface, if Creative Labs doesn't provide a driver, you are
- out of luck. With DOS and Windows this is not a problem, but I
- have Linux and Windows NT installed and cannot access the CD rom from
- either. The SB Pro does work under Windows NT, and I think someone
- is even writing a driver for Linux, but I'm not sure. Overall, for
- the money, I think it is a good package.
-
- If you want to spend a little more though, you may want to consider
- getting a true SCSI CD player, it will be more useful in the future.
- Also, there are some better sound cards out there now (read
- comp.sys.ibm.pc.soundcard for info) that even have SCSI ports on
- them. Again, it all depends on what you want to do. If you are
- committed to DOS and Windows 3.x for the next few years, this
- is a very good deal. Otherwise, look into the more expensive options.
