- I am having a conflict between my Sound Blaster Pro card and my new ATI
- graphics Untra Plus card. Sometimes (especially in windows and in Elf Land 1)
- the computer will lock up when a sound is being played (a sampled sound). Thsi
- happened all of the time when the bus speed was set to clckin/6. It set it to
- clckin/8 and some of the problems have stopped.
- When the speed was set to clckin/6, the computer would freeze during memory
- tests at the start, and sometimes while loading devices in config.sys. (It
- also would freeze when printing out the startup banner (AMI BIOS)).
-
- This was when the interrupt on the SBPro was on 7. Now on 10 it locks up
- sometimes, but not at all as frequent as before. (the drawback is that many
- games do not support int 10).
-
- When the computer would freeze up, on reset, it would seek drive B and not see
- the hard drive until I powered it off for an extended amount of time. The
- only time I could get it to lock up after changing the bus speed was when
- playing a sample through the SB on INT 7 - on int 10 it would not lock up
- nearly as often, just many programs can't see int10 on a SB card.
-
-
- Can anyone see something that may be causing this problem that I am missing?
-
- Here is my system:
- AMD 386-40 w/ 64k cache 8MB 70ns RAM (bus speed now at 10MHz)
- * CorelSCSI - 8bit on DMA 5 (That is all I could find on that one - if you need
- more details, I cam leaf through the manual)
- * SBPro - Int 10, DMA 1, Address 220-23F
- * Generic IDE/Floppy Controller - I don't have any docs on this one
- * I/O Card 1 - COM1/COM2 14550x2, LPT1 (INT 3,4 Addresses for COM1,COM2, INT 5
- * I/O Card 2 - COM3 LPT2 (int 4 Address for COM3, No interrupt for LPT2)
- * ATI Graphics Ultra +
- Uses COM4 addresses to communicate
- Uses interrupt 2, ports 2CE for mouse
- Remaps memory location 10MB to 13FFFFMB for Video card usage
-
- The BIOS on the motherboard is AMI, (c)1990
-
- Please e-mail my internet (or bitnet) address if possible as I do not read news
- often.
