- Paul,
- I too am looking to buy a tape unit, for <$400, and for OS/2.
- I've been gathering information for over a month. I am find that there are
- three types of tape units --
- floppy controlled (or seperate controller, same technology)
- - ~$200, +~$100 for a seperate controller
- - internal
- - slow, 1MByte/min
- - add ~$100 for external
- - some OS/2 support is available (Irwin, Colorado (coming))
- - no UNIX support, that I know of
-
- SCSI with SCSI controller
- - much too expensive > ~$800
- - OS/2 and UNIX support
-
- parrellel port (external by definition)
- - ~$400
- - Colorado Tracker and Irwin EZ-Port
- - no OS/2 support (yet ?)
- - no UNIX support.
-
- I'm not too happy with any of these choices. I'll probably go for the
- the parrellel port interface. If the prices are about the same, I'll
- probably go for the Colorado over Irwin, only because of thier reputation
- as being the "industry standard".
-
- If you know of anything else, please let me know.
