- I've used Tripp Lite units for years. I've had only one of them die, back in
- 1987 (a BC-450). Otherwise, the only maintenance I've had to do was replace
- one of the (undocumented; pays to hack sometimes) internal fuses in my BC-450.
- They are located in Chicago, but I don't have their number handy. Their OMNI
- LAN units all have ports for communication, but the one in the OMNI-LAN 450 is
- a stereo-type plug that was designed for Novell UPS monitor boards and
- keycards. The OMNI units also offer line conditioning, so are almost as
- good as true on-line units.
- I don't know about software for shutdowns other than for Novell except I
- believe it exists. I think APC is the company that provides the "Power Chute"
- software with its units to do this; I don't think this is limited to Novell
- but I do not know. Call APC...
- Another advantage plugged by Tripp Lite in their ads (I tend to believe this)
- is that they use especially large batteries for longer up times. I know
- I've gotten >10 minutes off my BC-450, and its beep tone hadn't changed to
- indicate a draining battery.
- A cautionary note: NEVER plug a laser printer into a UPS. Their cyclical
- load characteristics will likely fry the UPS.
