- How are horizontal scan rates, vertical refresh rates, bandwith,
- resolution, and color depth tied together?
-
- I have a Loop SuperVGA monitor (analog) which seems similar to the
- NEC MultiSync 2a, with the following specs:
-
- Horizontal Scan Rates: 31KHz (which the manual says gives 720x480 max
- res)
- 35KHz (which the manual says gives
- 800x600/1024x768 max)
- Vertical Refresh Rates: 50, 60, 70, and 87Hz
- Maximum Colors: 256
- Video Bandwidth: 40MHz
- Display Area: Horizontal: 240 +/- 5mm
- Vertical: 180 +/- 5mm
- Dot Pitch: .31 or .28mm
-
- And a ZyMos POACH 16-bit VGA card with 256k RAM.
-
- The Question:
- My VGA card manual says that if I want to use the extended VGA modes I
-
- need a MultiSync monitor with horizontal scan rates of 15 to 65KHz, however
-
- it also says a monitor such as the NEC MultiSync 2a will support some of
- these modes. I can add another 256K RAM to the card to make it 512K.
- Now I would like to be able to do 256 colors at at least 800x600. Can
- I do it with what I have, or do I need a new monitor?
-
- I would very much appreciate responses via mail. Thankyou in advance.
