- A friend of mine dropped in the other day with a non-working system... It
- appears that his hard drive is not working.

- Symptom:

- The drive spins up fine at power up, but shuts down after a few minutes.

- If the system boots before the motor shuts down, there is a tendency for
- information to be read, but _very_ slowly, and with (apparently) lots
- of retries and failures.

- The drive's indicator light blinks: # ! # # (# "long", ! "short")
- I am assuming this is some kind of diagnostic code. Can anyone help?
