- ..and don't you find it amazing that for every horror story, 5-10 other
- people speak up about how they had no problems. The only problems I've
- had with them (besides Telepath) is just how long I have to wait on
- the phone. I really wish they would fix that, but then again, I waited
- on the phone to Microsoft for 25 minutes waiting for a sales person so
- that I could *give* *them* *money*. Lord knows what the wait is on the
- Microsoft support lines. The point is, Gateway is not the only place you
- will wait on the phone for awhile. At least it's toll free.
-
- As for recent experience, I ordered a 340 meg drive from them three weeks
- ago and got a quote of two weeks. I called to check about two weeks later,
- and the status person said, "Oh no, that probably won't ship for another
- week or so". I was pretty pissed, as I *really* needed the drive for some
- work I was about to start. I called again two days later to give them the
- ultimatum of "ship it or cancel the order", only to find out that they had
- already shipped the drive, and I came home to find the drive sitting at the
- door.
-
- The other reason people still buy from Gateway? You can't beat the price.
- Before I called them back to twist their arm on the drive, I called five other
- places. A 350 meg IDE drive could not be had for less than $670, Gateway's
- price was $550.
