- More drives per controller, faster data transfer if you have a
- bus-mastering controller, larger drives available than for IDE, same
- controller can run disks, tapes, CD-ROM, etc.

-
- The AHA-1542 is a bus-mastering ISA controller. It is pretty much a
- 'standard' and I would expect everyone to support it. I know that
- support is written directly into OS/2 for this controller.
-
- >4) Is it possible to assign SCSI drive to boot drive?
-
- Yes. I'm running a system at home with an IDE controller installed
- (which only controls the floppy drives -- no hard drives attached) and
- an AHA-1740A SCSI controller with a Maxtor Panther drive. It runs and
- boots fine. Note that if you want to have more than 2 drives per SCSI
- controller, if you want multiple SCSI controllers, or if you want to
- support other than hard drives, you will need to install your machine
- as having 0 hard drives and then let the SCSI controller take care of
- things. You will also need some drivers (provided with the
- controller, usually).
