- Hi everybody!
- I've been following the discussion of the software/hardware problems
- of the new Gateway machines with much interest. One of the reasons
- was that I was waiting for my upgrate to arrive. 486-33DX ->
- 4DX-33V. And finaly (for good or bad) it arrived yesterday.
- I first transfered most of my files thrugh the serial post from
- my old machine to the new one. Then I started testing.
-
- Since it was an upgrade the ATI Ultra Pro was not configured for
- my monitor (G2k 1572FS). I found that out when I changed my graphic
- mode in Windows to 1024x768x256. It was INTERLACED. So I had to exit
- Windows end go into the install program and change the monitor type
- to 1572FS. After that windows worked OK. I ran Winmark 2.5 and got
- around 25Mpixels/second in 1024x768x256. I saw no visible problems.
- Switching to the 640x480x65k worked also OK. The desktop color
- pallete changer looked beoutifull. PSTYLER also worked. I than
- tried a Public domain/Shareware program for drawing 3d graphs, and
- there I encounterd problems. Several lines of the mash were being
- drawn at random places around its window (but not the display - so
- probably a driver problem). One other problem apeared when
- I tried the 800x600 resolution. Neither worked. Althogh the ATI test
- program successfully ran 800x600x256, windows reported at startup
- that the card was not installed for that resolution (or something
- like that - I'll hace to try it again and write down the message)
- Also the ATI test program did not let me test the 800x600x65k and
- 1280x1024x16 modes although the manual states that they should work
- with 1MB. These are the Windows problems I have encountered so
- far. The dos problems are comming up in the next message....

- P.S
- Please quote only the relevant material in replies. I have a 2400
- baud conection, and it takes hours to read the messages over
- and over again. ThanX
