  14. I'm sure this has been covered, but I *did* read the FAQs and I
  15. *did* try on my own...and I *did* read the applicable sections of
  16. the manual, BUT I still don't understand!  For one thing, the info in
  17. the manual pretty much has me overwhelmed, and it'd be nice to have
  18. some simple how-to instructions to follow to give me a little experience!

  20. Ok, so much for the flame retardation...now on to what I need to know!

  22. I have a new HP-48SX w/serial adapter kit, 32k RAM card, and the Equation
  23. Solver card.  I'm trying hard to figure out how to utilize stuff I downloaded
  24. from (ftp'd) seq.uncwil.edu and from the HP BBS.  I have a file called
  25. "movie" and "movie.doc" that sounds fun...it's supposed to be some kind of
  26. an animation.  Listing the file on my PC, I see it's binary and starts with
  27. "HPHP48...".  I figured out how to send it to the HP-48 by putting the
  28. thing in server mode (right-shift I/O), then using the kermit software
  29. that came with the serial kit, but it ended up in a variable called "movie"
  30. which appears to be a string since it's contained in "" when you recall it
  31. to the stack.  Question: I used BINARY mode, i.e. I/O setup => set to binary,
  32. but it still ended up as a string.  Even if it didn't, what the heck do I
  33. do with the thing?

  35. How about programs that I've downloaded?  They look like they have different
  36. sections of ASCII in them: uuencoded stuff and a couple of other sections.
  37. I haven't a clue on what to do with them.  Can someone tell me the name of
  38. an example program-containing file on the above mentioned ftp site, then 
  39. give DETAILED instructions on how to get it from my PC into the HP-48SX,
  40. and then into runable shape???  You can tell from my questions that I
  41. don't know what I'm talking about...I've only made it through the first
  42. 5 chapters of the el-huge-o manual, and read sections of the other stuff
  43. on transferring things and on libraries...

  45. I'm aware of the ASC-> and ->ASC programs, and have d/l'ed them also, but
  46. haven't tried getting them into the 48SX yet, since I was getting a little
  47. worn out on the idea (for now...grin).
