- There is a known bug when using the HP35480 with update(1m). The
- defect is in the tape drive firmware and causes it to return invalid
- data to the host. This may be causing the problems you are seeing. I
- would suggest you ask your dealer to upgrade the drive firmware to the
- latest revision. This cures this defect.

- The problem only occurs when you read a tape with update(1m). It is
- related to the exact sequence of commands sent by the update(1m)
- program. As a result, you can read the tape with dd(1) without any
- problems. If there is sufficient disc space available, you can dd(1)
- the tape into a disc file and then update from the disc file. This
- may be an acceptable work around until you can get the drive firmware
- updated.
