- Does anyone have any experience with HP Omniback Turbo or any [better]
- alternatives ? We have a requirement to back up a system which includes
- a 15GB Ingres database. To start with we anticipate backing up the system
- each week (during the 28-hour weekend service interval), but this may cease
- to be an option later on.
-
- We are already investigating the options provided by Ingres for continuous
- checkpointing and the like, but one way or another the whole lot has to
- be backed up safely on tape !!
-
- The planned system comprises two HP 9000/877 machines, running HPUX 8.02,
- using HP Switchover and DataPair 800. I believe that the tape drives
- under consideration are four Series 6400 Model 2000DC units, each capable
- of storing up to 8 GB.
-
- Omniback Turbo looks like it does support up to four parallel backup devices
- and this could be useful. The backups can be attended if necessary.
-
- One possibility might be on-line backups, but the Omniback manual says :
-
- "Online backups with the high-speed component of HP Omniback/Turbo can only be
- performed on HP-FL (FiberLink) disks, in combination with HP DataPair/800"
-
- But I also saw a reference in the Laserrom documentation for HP Switchover
- stating that tape devices for backup could not be attached to the
- highly-available host group.
-
- 15 GB isn't that big - what's the usual approach for systems of this size ?
-
- Any ideas / feedback ? E-mail or net, I don't mind.
