- Another option :

- whenever xrdb is involved (like in VUE) the file ~/.Xdefaults is not scanned,
- but the file ~/.Xdefaults-<hostname> is (unless XENVIRONMENT is set).

- All you have to do is rename your .Xdefaults file to .Xdefaults-`hostname`.
