  19. To write your own application, you'll need the Toshiba SCSI manual (#10587)
  20. for their XM-3301B drive.  Use the "pass thru" mode of the HP-UX SCSI
  21. driver.  Normal CD "Red Book" audio is available only thru the front panel
  22. (8 ohm) jack and at the 1V HiZ line outs on the rear panel of the CD mech.
  23. You cannot read RedBook audio via SCSI (Toshiba limitation).  You do not
  24. need audio in/out ports in the host SPU to play audio.

  26. If you just want to play music, a contributed application ("xcd") exists
  27. that presents a X-window CD player front panel. 
  28.  
  29. XCD runs: 
  30.  - on HP-UX 7.0 and 8.0x (not fully tested on 9.0),
  31.  - on Series 300, 400 and 700,
  32.  - with either SCSI or HP-IB (HP C1707A) CD-ROM drives.
  33. The SCSI drives must be HP-supplied or
  34. Toshiba XM-3201B, TXM-3201A1, XM-3301B or TXM-3301A1.

  36. XCD is available from the InterWorks (HP DOMAIN/Un*x workstation user
  37. group), on their CD-ROM library and via other methods.  It is also available
  38. from Interex (HP MPE/Un*x multi-user system user group).  Membership in
  39. InterWorks is free (although the CD is not).  Contact:  Carol Relph

  44. 1. Supply me with at least one known-valid email address.  Don't rely on the
  45.    return path - it often fails.

  47. 2. Indicate whether you want the MC68000 (Series 300/400) and/or PA-RISC
  48.    (Series 700) version of XCD.  XCD does not work on Series 800, due to
  49.    lack of SCSI pass-thru and low-level HP-IB command capability.

  51. 3. Make sure your mail path won't choke on 200+Kbyte shar files.
