- To write your own application, you'll need the Toshiba SCSI manual (#10587)
- for their XM-3301B drive. Use the "pass thru" mode of the HP-UX SCSI
- driver. Normal CD "Red Book" audio is available only thru the front panel
- (8 ohm) jack and at the 1V HiZ line outs on the rear panel of the CD mech.
- You cannot read RedBook audio via SCSI (Toshiba limitation). You do not
- need audio in/out ports in the host SPU to play audio.
-
- If you just want to play music, a contributed application ("xcd") exists
- that presents a X-window CD player front panel.
-
- XCD runs:
- - on HP-UX 7.0 and 8.0x (not fully tested on 9.0),
- - on Series 300, 400 and 700,
- - with either SCSI or HP-IB (HP C1707A) CD-ROM drives.
- The SCSI drives must be HP-supplied or
- Toshiba XM-3201B, TXM-3201A1, XM-3301B or TXM-3301A1.
-
- XCD is available from the InterWorks (HP DOMAIN/Un*x workstation user
- group), on their CD-ROM library and via other methods. It is also available
- from Interex (HP MPE/Un*x multi-user system user group). Membership in
- InterWorks is free (although the CD is not). Contact: Carol Relph
- (relph_c@apollo.hp.com) for info.

- I can supply copies via email. If you choose this route, you need to:
-
- 1. Supply me with at least one known-valid email address. Don't rely on the
- return path - it often fails.
-
- 2. Indicate whether you want the MC68000 (Series 300/400) and/or PA-RISC
- (Series 700) version of XCD. XCD does not work on Series 800, due to
- lack of SCSI pass-thru and low-level HP-IB command capability.
-
- 3. Make sure your mail path won't choke on 200+Kbyte shar files.
-
- I am not the author of xcd, just the distributor. Source is not available.
