- For personal or small business use, purchasing a 386/486/586 might
- make sense. However, the real performance difference between ANY x86
- system running UNIX and a UNIX workstation from HP is huge. When the
- 586 comes out it still will only be about 50% of the performance of my
- HP workstation, as rated by the generally accepted SPEC benchmarks.
-
- I have real problems with HP-UX ( I call it "caffeine-free diet
- UNIX" or "UNIX with nothing" as everyone here knows) but the HP
- hardware has been rock solid and the performance of the HP hardware is
- outstanding. Folks who think that an x86 cpu will give me the raw
- performance I already have on my desk are very confused.
