  13. It no longer makes any sense to buy computer systems 
  14. hardware from Sun, HP or Next for new applications.  Very 
  15. shortly it will be possible buy the Sun OS, the Next OS, 
  16. Windows NT and a variety of other UNIX systems that run 
  17. on the 486/586 platform.  Some of these are already 
  18. available.  Only a small performance difference, if any, exists 
  19. between the reported speed of the 586 and traditional UNIX 
  20. platforms.  The 486 (and soon 586)  "no-name" clones are 
  21. very cheap, reliable and are custom-built exactly to the user's 
  22. requirements within a day or two.  Over a dozen cabinets and 
  23. a vast array of peripheral cards are available.  When running 
  24. DOS and Windows, an infinite variety of usually 
  25. inexpensive software is available.  The large cost savings that 
  26. can be accrued in buying "no-name" clones can be invested 
  27. in HP peripherals (if you wish)  such as the LaserJet that are 
  28. still a very good value.
