  20. Well, since I raised the issue, I better quote the sticker in full.

  22. This customer equipment has no AUSTEL permit and may be dangerous or damage a
  23. telecommunications network.  Connection to a telecommunications network is an
  24. offense under Section 253 of the Telecommunications Act 1991 and may attract a
  25. maximum fine of $12,000.

  27. (So it seems my memory exaggerated a bit; it's really "don't use this or you pay
  28. a juicy fine".)

  30. The owner's manual also says, on the labeled picture of the back panel:

  34. There's also a black foam rubber thing jammed into the ISDN socket.

  36. I gather all this to mean that one or more of {software, hardware, certification
  37. testing} has not yet been completed.  I'm not sure what AUSTEL is -- Australia?
  38. -- but since I don't have an ISDN hookup in my office anyway, I don't much care.
