- The "Alpha AXP(tm)" made a bunch of us wonder, too, when the name
- was decided upon. After reading a long statement about the choice of the
- name "Alpha AXP(tm)" some of us finally managed to cut through the verbiage
- and discover that "AXP" doesn't mean *ANYTHING* - it's just 3 letters
- stuck onto "Alpha" to make it trademarkable. I've been involved in getting
- a trademark in the past, and it is a LOT more ridiculous than you'd think,
- especially for something you want to trademark internationally. So, while
- adding "AXP" may seem kind of dopey, it's actually a lot less dopey than
- the whole international trademark scene.
-
- Obviously, this is just my opinion.
