- The reason high officers are essentially never official spokespeople is
- that nobody controls them. I hope you don't remember what company I work
- for.....I can't tell you how many times our chairman has bragged in public
- about new products which never got introduced. Rank has its privileges, and
- one of them is being allowed to mouth off. The reason a statement Bob Brodie
- makes as Atari's spokesman is believable is that his responsibilities include
- checking the accuracy of his statements up and down the line. My employer
- makes most of its official announcements in advertising, but we also have
- about 2 official spokespeople, and they check their statements VERY carefully
- because that's what they're employed for.
