- Lord I HOPE not! The drive head is never supposed to TOUCH the platter! If
- it ever does, that's called a HEAD CRASH! The head should always be isolated
- from the disk by a thin layer of air. The damage and wear that would occur
- if the head actually rode on the disk would be immense. The high data
- storage, etc, is achieved by spinning the drive extremely fast constantly.
- That couldn't be done if the head rubbed against the platters. That's why
- you should NEVER move a hard drive while it's running, and be very careful
- when it's off. And why any contaminants that would affect the surface of
- the disk would be disastrous.
