- I am assuming the two grammar checkers are TimeOut Grammar and Sensible
- Grammar. TimeOut Grammar only works within AppleWorks 3.0 while Sensible
- Grammar will check the grammar of text files from a variety of Apple II
- (8 bit) word processing formats. Note that TimeOut Grammar does not work
- on older versions of AppleWorks.
-
- TimeOut Grammar and Sensible Grammar check grammar in the same way, by
- looking for commonly misused phrases, and common punctuation mistakes.
- Both programs will not check to see if you have accidentally changed the
- tense in the middle of a sentence, unless it's a common mistake that is
- listed in the grammar lists.
-
- TimeOut Grammar is a bit more up to date because it is a newer program.
-
- Both programs allow you to pick what kind of phrases that they will check
- for. If you notice that you make a common mistake and you want the grammar
- program to flag you each time you make it, TimeOut Grammar has grammar lists
- that are user definable. Sensible Grammar may, but I don't remember.
-
- Finally, TimeOut Grammar barely works on an Apple with the minimum recommended
- memory configuration (64k). I think you are limited to a document about 12k
- or so. This is a problem because as TimeOut Grammar checks your grammar, it
- loads the grammar lists into memory. If there is not enough memory to load
- all lists, the program checks your document with the lists in memory, dumps
- them, and loads as many more lists as memory allows. Since some lists are
- large, you need to make sure you have enough free memory before invoking
- TimeOut Grammar. If you don't have enough memory, the program will lock up.
- Fortunately, you can take advantage of the TimeOut patch to AppleWorks, hit
- control-reset to return to the main menu.
-
- I hope this comparison helps. I am a registered owner of Sensible Grammar,
- and I "beta" tested TimeOut Grammar while I was working at Quality Computers.

- |_____ in case any of you are wondering where I got my information, and how
- I could have used both programs legally, since I am a poor student!
