- On the 710, you can mount the network root (//) as /apollo and then
- have
- access to all the Domain/OS nodes ( /apollo/nodeA, /apollo/nodeB,
- etc.).
- The 710 can be mounted on one NFS server node at the network root, e.g.
- as //hp710, and is then accessible to all the Domain/OS nodes.

-
- Because of the superior networking model and the advantages of the
- Domain
- token ring, we plan to run Domain/OS as long as possible. Frankly,
- NFS,
- ethernet, and X windows are a step backwards as far as many long time
- Apollo
- users are concerned. If you must switch to HP/UX, I recommend trying it
- on
- a few 9000/4xx machines first, and not convert them all at once.

-
- Not sure what you mean here; most of these systems have a serial port or
- two,
- so that's certainly one option. Just connect the modem, edit the
- '/etc/ttys'
- file, send a signal to 'init' to re-read /etc/ttys, and you have dialup
- using the standard Unix 'getty' process.
-
- You can probably also buy some sort of dedicated telecomm box that
- supports
- multiple modems and connects to the net via ethernet; I know such things
- exist,
- but not who makes them, how much $$$, or any other pertinent details.
