- I recently downloaded the dikumud source from ucbvax.berkeley.edu.
- In this source there are a couple of files of ZERO length, and they
- seem to cause *SEVERE* results.
-
- I began to decompress the archive, and it was going along fine until
- it hit the first zero length file. It locked up and "guru'ed".. (I know..
- 2.04 doesn't GURU, but I still call it that.. same thing ya know).
- So I rebooted and tried it again. Same problem, but now my hard drive
- has a CHECKSUM error. I rebooted again. Checksum error on reboot,
- same block #. So I cancel, and now drive DH1: was not validated! Since
- I didn't have some nice program like Quarterback Tools, I took it in
- and had them fix it so I didn't have to lose anything (I lost 5 or 6 files
- but nothing real important it seems).
-
- Not wanting to cause problems with the hard drive again, I decided to
- uncompress the archive in RAM. Only this time, I viewed it first,
- noted the two zero length files that were there, and created a file
- ( echo >filename ) for each one, THEN I decompressed the archive,
- skipping over the zero length files.
-
- No problems.
-
- Why does LHA do this? It really screwed my harddrive over.
-
- -----------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Second question on lha. How do I preserve the entire directory structure?
- I use LHA to back up my SYS: partition (It's only about 6 megs).
- Unfortunately, when I use 'lha -x ram:sysbackup.lha dh0:*', it gets
- each directory, compresses everything withing each directory EXCEPT
- deeper subdirectories. So while it has no problem compressing everything
- in DH0:c/ and DH0:System/, it doesn't compress dh0:AmigaUUCP/lib/, or
- dh0:AmigaUUCP/mail/.
-
- Any help on this one?
-
- Please reply to 99root@lab.cc.wmich.edu - mail is not likely to get to
- the system from which I am writing this from. :)
