  30. However, this is unlikely to be the problem.  The serial port isn't that
  31. strange; it's mostly a matter of some extra signals being on some
  32. otherwise-unused pins.  if you get a cable that only passes pins 2-8 and
  33. 20, you shouldn't have any trouble.  (You need to get the gender right on
  34. the Amiga end, too)

  36. If you don't hear a dial tone when it goes off hook, and it doesn't dial, 
  37. the first thing I suspect is that there's no dial tone available to the 
  38. modem.  You might make sure the speaker is turned on.
