- I don't know if I have already asked this here, but
- I am doing it now:
-
- I have an internal floppy on an older A500 which I purchased
- used two months ago. The drive was fine (as far as I could
- tell), until about one month after I got it. I do not usually
- use it for AmigaDOS disks, since I have most everything on my
- harddrive. I generally d/l software on a PC, and mount the
- PC disk on workbench using one of three products:
-
- Messy-DOS, Multi-DOS, or Cross-DOS.
-
- I have 2.0 ROMS, and I run 2.04, and 2.1.
-
- The errors were rare at first, but now plentiful. I get an error
- #25, which seems to be a CRC checksum error, from all of these
- utilities (though Messy-DOS doesn't recognize the IBM DOS disk
- very often). I get this error only when trying to copy, view,
- exectute, or access the FIRST file on the disk. It accesses about
- the first 20k of the file before giving me the error message.
-
- I figured at first that it was time to replace the drive, so
- I took the machine into my favorite Amiga dealer. They tested
- the drive as completely as they could under AmigaDOS, and told
- me there was nothing wrong with it. It produced the error
- under Cross-DOS, etc, and the techician does not know what the
- error means. I decided to save myself some money and take my
- machine back.
-
- Also, I have had a couple of games that have become screwed
- lately, but for some reason I feel this is more a coincidence,
- since in my 6 years of owning an Amiga, I have gotten MANY
- "screwed" disk erros.. I usually just toss them out. In
- particular JR-Comm used to get screwed a lot, right at track
- 40, but that's another story...
-
-
- If anyone out there knows anything about floppys and can help,
- please let me know.
-
- Thanks,
-
- Scotty AJ
